The cases of mucormycosis, or black fungus, rose by 36 to reach 4,925 in Andhra Pradesh over the last one week. Only one infected person succumbed to the disease during the week, revealed Medical and Health Department data.
The number of cases being treated declined from 463 to 390 during the week.Chittoor district reported 10 new cases and one death, Anantapuram recorded eight new cases, while East Godavari, Prakasam and Guntur districts reported five new cases each. Kurnool reported two and Kadapa reported one case in a week. No new cases were reported from the remaining six districts.
At present, Guntur district has the highest number of mucormycosis cases under treatment, standing at 135. It is followed by Chittoor with 68, Krishna with 58 and East Godavari with 50 cases.
Six districts have less than 20 active cases, Vizianagaram has only one, while Srikakulam and West Godavari districts have no active case.
Surgeries have been performed on 4,086 patients thus far.
